We wrapped up another busy summer production season with projects for the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, Curiosity Stream, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In addition to Elise’s regular writing work for WHOI.edu and the Ocean Twilight Zone project, and Daniel’s ongoing collaborations with Scott Motion Films, we’re just catching up on all the fun. Check out the slideshow for some behind-the-scenes of these science video projects!
Observer trainees learn to use different types of hand scales, used to estimate the size of the catch aboard commercial fishing vessels.
Observer trainees learn to put out fires in preparation for the hazards they might encounter on fishing trips.
The catch comes on deck during a training cruise on Cape Cod Bay.
WHOI’s research vessel “Atlantis” in port at Woods Hole. The ship was heading to Puerto Rico for science verification tests of the human-occupied submersible, Alvin. Whenever we get the chance, we film aerials of the ship departures.
WHOI scientist Anne Cohen’s interview about creating a digital “twin” of threatened coral reefs for an episode of “Breakthroughs” on Curiosity Stream.
Emman Codillo in the hot seat for WHOI’s climate video.
Yogi Girdhar, a WHOI scientist and engineer, prepares for his interview for Curiosity Stream’s “Breakthrough” episode on Super Reefs. The robot he designed uses artificial intelligence to map and learn about sensitive coral reefs, enabling data collection in areas that divers and bigger vehicles cannot go.
