A funny thing happened on the way to the shoot

It doesn’t happen every day, but when we have a local shoot in Woods Hole, it makes more sense to walk than drive. Even if it’s snowing, as it happened for a recent shoot for CTV.

We were commissioned by the Canadian broadcaster to film an interview with Roger Hanlon at MBL for their flagship news program W5. They’re producing a segment on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), which led them to signs of intelligent life on earth and (of course) the octopus that Roger studies. Due to the pandemic, travel from Canada was impossible —and that’s where we come in.

After loading up the lights and camera onto our trusty equipment cart, our production assistant (ahem, son) Marin wanted in on the action. So, up he went too, just as our interviewee Roger drove by. He took this fun shot of our family production outing before we headed over to the lab, about 3 minutes walk away.

It was a pleasure to work with the W5 team on this remote shoot, and we’ll be sure to post the video after it airs in March.
