Interview with a Venezuelan student in Cambridge, MA for Voz de America

Shooting Boston with Venezuela 360

Though many of our productions fit into more of a documentary category, we occasionally go back to our roots in straight-up journalism through our collaboration with Storyhunter. In February were hired through that platform by Voice of America’s Spanish-language outlet, VOA Noticias, for its flagship program Venezeula 360.

Venezuelan students in Boston chat with their counterparts in Caracas.

The four-day shoot was a whirlwind tour of Boston/Cambridge’s most esteemed institutions, including Harvard, MIT, and Massachusetts General Hospital, highlighting Venezuelan students and professionals who are doing awesome research on everything from robotics to tuberculosis and “architecture of the night” to physically reduce crime in places like Caracas.

Our DP, Daniel Cojanu, shot B-roll around the city and handled the camera placement, lighting and audio for multi-camera setups that included a live Skype conversation with students in Venezuela and a busy restaurant scene.

The team was really thrilled with his work, which made producing the below segments a snap.

Our journalists are raving about working with Daniel. He was great to work with and video looks awesome.

In turn, Daniel brushed up on his Spanish — which is similar to his native Romanian — by listening closely to the interviews and hanging out with the fun-loving team. Disfrute del programa!
